Alcuin College for the Liberal Arts

The irregular and steeply sloped site posed several challenges for the design team, yet provided the opportunity for a uniquely distinctive building design for this independent K-12 university-preparatory school in North Vancouver.

The building orientation takes full advantage of the remarkable views from the site, and the sun exposure and light from the east, while addressing two streets of very different characters; a busy thoroughfare and a quiet residential street. A tough, low maintenance strategy, with durable materials is balanced with an attractive aesthetic that establishes an inviting and enticing series of spaces for student use. These principles will create an alluring setting for the school at the ground level, and a useful and engaging setting for roof level learning areas.
